In practice
A migration, from start to finish
A public credit-card application from the mainframe world — CICS screens, VSAM files, nightly batch and BMS maps — migrated and put to work. It is here so you can see the shape of the job, not to measure a portfolio against it.
CICSthe screens, not rewritten
Batchsubmitted through the queue
VSAMstill EBCDIC, byte for byte
The screens come up in a 3270 terminal with the same maps. The jobs are submitted through the queue the way an operator submits them, and land in the spool. The part worth knowing is what showed up only because it was actually run: fifteen real defects, including an inverted condition on a job step that would have wiped a master file. Reading generated code proves nothing; running it is the test. That is the same test your pilot gets — on your programs, which is where the answer that matters comes from.
